Pflegehund Leoni

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

Since in Germany: February 2026 At foster home in: 09661 Striegistal Estimated age: born around January 2021 Estimated shoulder height: about 30 – 39 cm Get to know Leoni directly in the video! Cute, sensitive, eager to learn – small animal protection female dog Leoni is waiting for you in 09661 Striegistal! Leoni is a small female dog with a big wish: finally belonging. Alone and helpless, Leoni gave birth to her puppies on a company premises in Romania and raised them. Not a good place for a small female dog with puppies – too little food, no warmth and always the fear of being caught by dog catchers. These worries have now fortunately been left behind by Leoni. Today she is safe and waiting in a foster home in Germany for a new beginning. There, Leoni shows herself as an extremely people-oriented and cuddly female dog who prefers to be very close to her trusted people – if she could, she would literally crawl into someone. She actively seeks closeness, often stands on her hind legs, "docks" with her front paws and lovingly distributes kisses. At the same time, Leoni is curious and eager to learn and wants to be involved everywhere. In daily life, Leoni shows herself as a sensitive female dog, who orientates herself to calm and clear body language and gains increasing confidence with some time. Outside, Leoni is friendly and open in contact with other dogs and often relies on her human. She can already stay alone for several hours and shows motivation and eagerness to learn. Currently, she is practicing basic commands diligently, is becoming more secure with house training and is also making progress on the leash. Traveling by car is still difficult for her at the moment. For Leoni, we are looking for a loving, quiet home with people who enjoy working with her and giving her security. She is generally also suitable for committed beginner dog owners or seniors who like to be out and about and want to support her. As a single princess, she would feel most comfortable. We can imagine living together well with older, calm children. She needs people with patience, clarity and heart who give her security – already now, she shows how faithful and attached she becomes to her humans. Already in love? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you are considering an adoption, please read through the adoption process first. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas and neutered (exceptions are puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are additionally tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, feel free to send our adoption team a message.

In Deutschland seit: Februar 2026 Auf Pflegestelle in: 09661 Striegistal Geschätztes Alter: geb. ca. Januar 2021 Geschätzte Schulterhöhe: ca. 30 – 39 cm Lerne hier Leoni direkt im Video kennen!

About Pflegehund Leoni

What life with Pflegehund Leoni looks like

Pflegehund Leoni is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pflegehund Leoni, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pflegehund Leoni?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pflegehund Leoni on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pflegehund Leoni if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pflegehund Leoni already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pflegehund Leoni isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pflegehund Leoni and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
