Phil

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 3 months

In the animal shelter since: October 2026 Estimated age: born approx. July 2026 Estimated adult shoulder height: approx. 40 – 59 cm Estimated adult weight: 20 – 35 kg Earliest departure: 28.11. Get to know Phil right here in the video! Sweet puppy Phil is waiting for his family Puppy Phil was found in an abandoned house where stray dogs had taken refuge. The adult dogs were very frightened. They were sterilized and released again. The puppies could also be rescued and were taken into the shelter. You can find more information about how the dogs come to the shelter, and answers to general questions, in our animal welfare FAQ. Our puppy rascal pack has so far shown itself to be lively and playful, typical of puppies. These clumsy little furballs are exploring their world, some a bit shyer, some already self-assured. Their characters will continue to develop over the coming weeks and months – at this point only the beginnings can be seen. If you would like more information about this furball, feel free to write to our placement team. If nothing applies to the furball, please delete the entire container. We suspect that HUNDENAME may have a livestock guardian dog (HSH) in him/her. Please inform yourself here about the requirements for adopting a livestock guardian dog. HSH mixes are often very independent and need confident, assured leadership. HUNDENAME has a cropped ear / two cropped ears / a cropped tail. Many dogs in Romania have these cut off so the animals look more dangerous. HUNDENAME has a short tail. It is unclear whether his/her tail is cropped or naturally short. HUNDENAME is currently underweight. On the street or in kill shelters, the animals mostly get too little to eat or nothing at all, so they become severely emaciated. In the shelter, however, our furball is again being given more food and will hopefully soon reach a normal weight. HUNDENAME was ill with parvovirus. Luckily, the little one survived the virus. Our placement team knows best about the exact state of health. If you have any further questions, feel free to write us a message. MANDATORY for medical findings (please delete) Our placement team knows best about the exact state of health. If you have any further questions, feel free to write us a message. Puppies should not have to grow up in a shelter. That is why we urgently seek a loving home or an experienced foster home for this little furball – a place where it can discover the world, build trust, and simply be a puppy. Anyone adopting a puppy should be aware of how demanding everyday life with a young dog can be: as soon as house-training is accomplished, the "wild adolescence" often begins – full of energy, uncertainties, and new challenges. The first years of life are an exciting journey that human and dog take together – with highs, lows, and plenty of learning moments. We wish for this furball people with patience, empathy, and stamina – and with an understanding that shelter dogs often already bring some history with them. How exactly they react to their new life in Germany can never be fully predicted. But one thing is certain: whoever adopts rather than buys not only gives an animal a second chance, but actively decides against animal suffering – and for a life with a very special companion by their side. Already smitten? Send us a self-disclosure! Adoption If you are considering adoption, first read through the placement process. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, deflead, and neutered before departure (exceptions are puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any further questions, feel free to write to our placement team.

About Phil

What life with Phil looks like

Phil is a puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Phil, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Phil?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Phil on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Phil if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Phil already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Phil isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Phil and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
