adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! Relocation requirements Philo can stay at his foster home! His story: Philo is developing wonderfully at his foster home. Who would have thought? From the handful of misery that turned its back on the public shelter in Baia Mare in March 2019, a lively, playful clown has become. And although the veterinarians in Germany hardly gave him any chances of recovery, the little man has packed his life force and fighting spirit and from the broken remnants of the last lumbar vertebra, he only has incontinence left. Philo can walk, jump, and run again and enjoy life, no one would have thought. He can even wave with the stick, which was absolutely immobile until recently, and he also reacts more and more to stimuli here. On the couch, he sometimes even does somersaults. The little heartbreaker gets along super with the cats in the foster home, and mutual fur grooming is regularly practiced here. The house dog also loves him with all her heart, and he is also very interested in fellow animals, even if he often has to bark first out of excitement. He loves playing and toiling with other dogs, no wonder because for a long time, he was not allowed to do this. Women love him totally, with men, it depends on the sympathy, and children should know responsible dog handling and be at least 12 years old. We wish him an end placement that gives him the time he needs for his further recovery, because we have not given up hope that his closing muscle will also function properly again. An end placement that is also ready to take on all the care he needs during this time and to continue going with him to physiotherapy, because it really helps him and he has insane amounts of fun with it. At home, Philo wears diapers, which he changes very patiently. Additionally, he gets medications to regenerate his nerves (Vitamin B preparations). Philo is about 40 cm tall and weighs around 14 kg, making him a lightweight. He is estimated to be around 2-3 years old. The little cuddle ball is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea treated, and has an EU pet passport. He will be placed after a positive decision. The first steps into a new life for Philo have already been made; he was found and could get out of the dim shelter. Who will take the next step with him and give him his loving forever home? Many thanks to Andrea Lessel from Seelenheil Photography for the beautiful pictures of Philo! And "as long as people think that animals do not feel, animals must feel that people do not think."

About Philo

What life with Philo looks like

Philo is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Philo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Philo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Philo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Philo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Philo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Philo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Philo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
