Pico

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Pico lives in a foster home in 56357 Miehlen. VIDEOS AVAILABLE !!! male dog/castrated born around November 2022 Size: about 60 cm. Pico has grown up in the foster home with a young male dogs, the boisterous puppy phase is over. The foster family reports that Pico is definitely NO beginner dog. He needs clear instructions and rules to keep his ideas in check. Pico is a very agile dog who needs a lot of physical exercise, but also mental work. Pico has an excellent nose, he could certainly be trained as a tracking dog, at the same time he would get the stimulation he needs in daily life. The handsome guy is best suited for an active and sporty family with dog experience, in our opinion. Pico could enjoy agility, mantrailing or sporting activities of his family like jogging or running alongside the bicycle. Due to his size and temperament, children in the new home should be somewhat older because they are more stable. Just because of his size and weight, his new owners should have enough strength to be able to lead Pico on a leash. He is not yet responsive and due to his hunting instinct, he unfortunately does not enjoy off-lead walks during our walks. Pico is a smart dog, which makes living with him not always easy :) So you can only leave him alone at home if you leave the apartment "childproof", because Pico can open doors, for example. Pico also seeks contact with his humans, loves to cuddle and enjoys the cuddles next to his humans. We definitely see the potential in Pico to become a great family dog, which ideally should find its home in a house with a high fenced garden. It should be noted that Pico should NOT be left alone in the garden, as he likes to try to overcome fences, which can mean unforeseen dangers for him if he then goes out for a walk alone. He knows the common commands, such as sit and stay, but they are not yet firmly established, therefore we recommend attending a dog training class. For Pico it would be great if people have enough time and desire to work with him and lead him clearly and consistently.

Pico lebt auf einer Pflegestelle in 56357 Miehlen. VIDEOS VORHANDEN !!!

About Pico

What life with Pico looks like

Pico is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierfreunde Patras e.V. in Ratingen.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pico, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pico?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierfreunde Patras e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pico on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pico if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierfreunde Patras e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pico already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pico isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierfreunde Patras e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pico and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
