Pico und Lino

Chihuahua · Male · Senior · 16 years

Our seniors Lino (16, white/grey) and Pico (10, black/brown): We are looking for a calm, loving home for our two neutered Chihuahua males, Lino and Pico. They came to us because, unfortunately, veterinary care was no longer available at their previous home. As a result, when they first arrived, they had severely neglected teeth and overgrown claws. Since the two are inseparable, we will only place them together. Lino – 16 years old, neutered: Despite his advanced age, Lino is a brave senior dog. He is completely blind, yet he manages remarkably well in everyday life. At first, he needs some time to build trust. But once he’s gotten to know his people, he thoroughly enjoys the peace and quiet as well as cuddles and affection. Pico – 10 years old, neutered: Pico is the younger member of the pair and provides emotional support for Lino. Health-wise, he has heart weakness, which means he requires daily medication permanently. Currently, his condition is well-managed. Like Lino, Pico is initially shy and needs a patient period of getting to know his new family. The ideal home: Due to their past experiences and health limitations, we’re looking for a very special kind of home: Lots of peace and quiet: A stress-free single or couple’s home with little hustle and bustle. No small children: For Pico’s weak heart and Lino’s impaired orientation, a child-free household is essential. Accessibility: Given Lino’s blindness, the home should be as barrier-free as possible.

About Pico und Lino

What life with Pico und Lino looks like

Pico und Lino is a small senior chihuahua dog waiting at Tierheim Mülheim in Mülheim.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pico und Lino, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pico und Lino?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Mülheim handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pico und Lino on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pico und Lino if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Mülheim will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pico und Lino already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pico und Lino isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Mülheim early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pico und Lino and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
