Pierre (FB)

Mixed Breed · Male

Pierre was taken in by our animal welfare colleagues Sarah and Sven from the Pererra in the north of the island. His owner was already elderly and suddenly no longer able to take care of him – so Pierre lost his home and eventually ended up in the Pererra. On the Finca, Pierre currently lives in a small senior enclosure with two older Podencas. The first few days were unfamiliar for him, as he had to find his place in the existing pack. However, things have settled well now, and the three enjoy the sun together, observe the happenings on the Finca, or lie relaxed next to each other. Occasionally, they also play together. Despite this, it is clear that Pierre misses something. He is a dog who seeks human proximity and was accustomed to being part of a home. The life on the Finca cannot replace that for him. Pierre is a very people-oriented, affectionate male dog who enjoys any attention. He especially likes to come very close, lean against someone, and get his scratches. His friendly nature and cute "smile" make it hard to resist him. He listens to his name, masters sit, and shows himself to be cooperative and attentive overall. For a treat, he will even give his paw. For Pierre, we wish for a quieter home where he does not have to be part of a large pack. He could live in a small, harmonious dog pack or as a single dog, where he gets the attention he so desires. His new home should ideally be in a more rural setting with a securely fenced garden, so Pierre can also move freely and relaxed outside. His future people should enjoy going for walks through field and forest together, but at a more relaxed, age-appropriate pace. Pierre can be well matched with an already existing, compatible dog, but would also be content as a single dog. In this case, regular contact with other dogs should still be possible. If you would like to give the friendly Pointer a loving home, we look forward to your message.

About Pierre (FB)

What life with Pierre (FB) looks like

Pierre (FB) is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierhilfe Fuerteventura in Dransfeld.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pierre (FB), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pierre (FB)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Fuerteventura handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pierre (FB) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pierre (FB) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Fuerteventura will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pierre (FB) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pierre (FB) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Fuerteventura early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pierre (FB) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
