Piku

Male · Adult · 7 years

‼️ Piku is urgently looking for a permanent home ‼️ Piku – a shy individual with a huge heart When Piku arrived at the animal shelter, he was a shadow of himself - frustrated, lost and unable to cope with emotions. He chewed his own tail, couldn't calm down and didn't understand why the world around him was so loud and unpredictable. The animal shelter was a big challenge for him. Today Piku has taken a big step forward - he communicates better with trusted people and can show that he still has a lot of tenderness to give. However, when stress overwhelms him, it still happens that he releases it in his own way. It's his way of releasing tension, which is hard to completely eliminate in shelter conditions. Piku is a dog with a character - he can be stubborn, values routine and well-known paths. Once he makes up his mind, it's hard to convince him to change his opinion. But if he trusts his human, he can follow him faithfully, even into the unknown. He needs someone who is patient and consistent, while also being able to appreciate his uniqueness. The greatest joy on a daily basis is eating. He loves human company, especially those who appear with a treat in hand. His volunteers greet him with a smile and a wagging fluffy tail, and approaches strangers with a little reserve, although he quickly shows that he has a good heart. Piku handles car rides well - he jumps into the car by himself, sits buckled up and observes the world outside the window with interest. He also calmly tolerates visits to the veterinarian, shows no aggression and allows himself to be led. There is certainly a mix of original breeds in his blood - independence, curiosity about the world and "his own opinion" are his distinguishing features. Left alone, he can get bored, and then his bed may become the target of a small "explosion" of creativity. Gets along well with other dogs. In their company he feels more confident, and in stressful moments they can be support for him. In a new home, he would fit well next to a calm, stable canine resident. For Piku we are looking for an experienced caregiver who understands canine emotions and knows that stubbornness often hides fear and the need for security. Someone who respects his pace, won't force him to change by force and will create a calm, predictable world where the dog will finally feel safe.

Piku to pies z charakterem – bywa uparty, ceni rutynę i dobrze znane szlaki. Kiedy już coś postanowi, trudno go przekonać do zmiany zdania. Krysia 664248224 Magda 668412043

About Piku

What life with Piku looks like

Piku is a large adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Stress-related behaviors including tail biting when overwhelmed, needs consistent routine and patient handling

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Piku, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Piku?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Piku on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Piku if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Piku already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Piku isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Piku and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
