Pikuś

Mixed Breed · Female

Pikuś—a dog who underwent a major transformation—is looking for a home. Pikuś arrived at the shelter as a very frightened little pup. The world was foreign and terrifying to him—he looked at people with fear and trembled all over when touched. Every new sound and every new situation filled him with uncertainty. Fortunately, weeks of working together, patience, and tenderness showed Pikuś that life by a human’s side can be good and safe. Today, he’s a completely different dog! He’s becoming more and more confident about being petted, happily runs around the play area, eagerly enjoys tasty treats, and increasingly looks forward to our walks together. Pikuś has also started showing interest in other dogs—especially getting along well with female dogs, around whom he feels more secure. With curiosity, he sniffs around, explores his surroundings, and learns what a normal, canine life is all about. You can see how much he’s starting to love it. He’s gained weight, built up his strength, and every day shows that he wants to trust more and more. He’s an incredibly sensitive dog who needs a calm, patient home and an owner willing to give him time and a sense of security. Because Pikuś has truly learned to enjoy life already... now all he’s missing is his own person. Domku—could you be the one for this little miracle? Weight: 22 kg.

PL·Show original

Waga: 22 kg.

About Pikuś

What life with Pikuś looks like

Pikuś is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Czekadełko in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pikuś, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pikuś?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Czekadełko handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pikuś on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pikuś if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Czekadełko will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pikuś already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pikuś isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Czekadełko early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pikuś and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
