adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Pinocchio has found a home! His story: Our handsome Pinocchio was able to travel to his foster family in 21358 Mechtersen after more than two years in the public shelter Baia Mare in October. He showed immediate interest and openness to the two dogs and cats he now shares his foster family with, though he was very cautious. Within a few days, the sweet guy began to cuddle and play with his fellow animals. Unfortunately, the two cats showed no special interest in him, even though Pinocchio constantly sought affection. He was initially reserved and a bit suspicious around people, but trust grew day by day. All four family members are now accepted and greeted with joy. The nice little guy also alternates between naps and playtime. Neighbors and friends are always welcome. He shows some initial insecurity around strangers but is always friendly, wanting to first smell and observe everyone. Pinocchio is about 3 years old and has a pleasant medium size. He is curious, playful, and active. He loves to run through the garden and enjoys long walks, orienting himself strongly towards his people. He also runs well while jogging and is not easily distracted. When the doorbell rings or someone comes onto the property, he alerts them conscientiously but is quickly called back. Pinocchio learns very quickly, especially with a reward system. He already uses the commands Come, Sit, and Heel reliably. The great guy is looking forward to many adventures with you and a visit to puppy school would be really great too, to play with other fur buddies and to learn the puppy 1×1 with you. This makes a lot of fun and strengthens the bond between human and dog. Pinocchio is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He has an EU pet passport and can be adopted after a positive assessment. Can you imagine a life with Pinocchio by your side? Do you want to experience adventures with him and accompany him as he grows up? Thank you, Diana! You support Pinocchio with a monthly sponsorship. As of: 14.11.

Lieben Dank Diana I.! Du unterstützt Pinocchio mit einer monatlichen Patenschaft. Stand: 14.11.2024

About Pinocchio

What life with Pinocchio looks like

Pinocchio is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pinocchio, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pinocchio?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pinocchio on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pinocchio if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pinocchio already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pinocchio isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pinocchio and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
