Pippa

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 6 years

Found at about 8 weeks old, Pippa and her siblings grew up well cared for in the shelter. Two of them were able to find their own home in Germany. The remaining three, however, unfortunately did not have the chance to be adopted by a family as a puppy and are still waiting for their chance. However, the older they get, the more difficult it becomes, as experience with shy dogs is needed. Pippa has spent almost her entire life in the animal shelter. It is not easy for puppies/junior dogs who grow up isolated from the outside world. Although they are very socialized with other animals, they lack many everyday influences and contact with different people. Often, they only see the animal welfare workers on site for long periods of time, who take care of them. They don't know children, cars, maybe they are afraid of umbrellas or people who walk with a cane, or so many other encounters. They are not familiar with many sounds outside and are often very jumpy in the beginning. During our visit in September 2020, we could not touch Pippa and her siblings. She was curious, but only in the company of her brothers. We are looking for someone who is familiar with shy dogs, has a securely fenced garden, and gives Pippa all the time she needs to gain trust. Pippa will not be house-trained and also does not know a leash, harness, or collar. All of this must be learned with patience and means a big task. This animal is not suitable for homes with children.

DE·Show original

About Pippa

What life with Pippa looks like

Pippa is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Friends for Life Germany e.V. in Hemer.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pippa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pippa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Friends for Life Germany e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pippa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pippa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Friends for Life Germany e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pippa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pippa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Friends for Life Germany e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pippa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
