Pita

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 12 years

I am very loved, but I choose the people I like and I like people more than dogs. Date of birth: 11.16.2013 size: medium My life story: I lived many years on the street, together with my brother Bobi. We lived with an elderly couple who thought they were doing the best for us, as they gave us shelter and food. Sometimes the man walked us, but he stopped doing so when he got older and sick. The couple's family asked help from the animal rescue association and we were taken to the shelter in March 2022. At first it was very difficult, as we did not understand where we were and we were a bit aggressive, but then we adapted. My temperament: from an aggressive dog, Pita has become a very friendly little dog with humans. She is very affectionate and cheerful with people she knows well, shy with people she has just met. She does not get along with other dogs and is in the process of socialization to overcome this situation. She would be a great companion if adopted as the only dog in a house. She walks well on a leash and is obedient.

About Pita

What life with Pita looks like

Pita is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Cadela Carlota & Companhia in Portugal.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇹Adopting from Portugal

Portuguese rescues coordinate extensively with European rescue networks for cross-border placements, especially for galgos and podencos. Sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID are standard. Adoption fees typically cover the full vet workup.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pita, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pita?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Cadela Carlota & Companhia handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pita on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pita if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Cadela Carlota & Companhia will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pita already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pita isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Cadela Carlota & Companhia early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pita and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
