Pitri

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Pirti, male, approximately 6 years old, from 49143 Bissendorf, is looking for a new home. Pitri is a lively little guy who spends a lot of time in his exercise wheel. He is a rather shy degu who doesn't like to be touched or taken out of his cage. If it is still necessary to take him out of the cage (e.g. for vet visits), you need to be very patient. Digging is his favorite activity, so suitable digging material is urgently needed for him. He also needs plenty of opportunities to chew, as he is passionate about it. He loves to play with the cardboard rolls from toilet paper. He takes the toilet paper itself very willingly as nesting material and immediately runs off to build a cozy nest with it. His favorite snacks include snack tomatoes - he loves them. He also happily accepts the gift of Golliwoog or branches from the apple tree. Pitri is very loving towards other species. You could almost say he has a protective instinct. He likes to groom other species very much. In a pair, Pitri is the more dominant degu. If there are disputes, he withdraws quickly and the disputes are quickly settled. In the course of a socialization, you also need to be patient with him and not give up so quickly, Pitri needs time to get used to new species. Since Pitri is a lively and dominant degu, a calm partner would be useful for him. I would give the exercise wheel (from Laufradschmiede - material: metal) to the new owners for a certain amount. The remaining food, as well as litter and hay, can also be given away for free. No diseases or dental problems are known about him. He is fed with various herbs, carrots, beetroot, pea flakes, parsnip, parsley root and plenty of hay. In the case of a successful

Zu seinen Lieblingssnacks gehören u. a.

About Pitri

What life with Pitri looks like

Pitri is a small adult mixed breed animal waiting at Deguhilfe Süd e.V. in Obermichelbach.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Pitri far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pitri, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pitri?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Deguhilfe Süd e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pitri on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pitri if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Deguhilfe Süd e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pitri already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pitri isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Deguhilfe Süd e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pitri and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
