Pitty

Male · Young · 3 years

Pitty is a curious, cheerful and cuddly dog who is very affectionate with people and forms a close bond with his primary caregiver. He loves to learn and really enjoys training. He likes to be part of everything and enjoys his walks most of all. In a wheelchair he can easily manage up to an hour, and in total he is active for about two hours a day. He especially loves fast laps across the meadow as well as exciting search games. Car rides are also among his favourite activities, especially when he gets to sniff out of the window. Mental stimulation is important to him and helps him stay relaxed at home. Pitty gets along well with dogs he knows. When he meets unfamiliar dogs, he still reacts with uncertainty and shows fear-based reactivity. Experience handling such situations is therefore an advantage. He is receiving private training for this and is making good progress. In addition, he takes part in social walks and a weekly sniffing course. A confident, experienced second dog could give him extra support and guidance. Pitty can be left alone well, although, like most dogs, he naturally prefers to be with his people 😉. He does not get along with cats. Small children unsettle him, especially when they run towards him. Pitty is partially paralysed. He had a broken back and an injured hock joint; how this happened is unfortunately unknown. He likes to test boundaries and reacts sensitively to stimuli. When he feels insecure, he starts to bark. Pitty is therefore looking for a calm, low-stimulus home with dog-experienced people who can give him security through clear, loving guidance.

DE·Show original

About Pitty

What life with Pitty looks like

Pitty is a large young adult dog waiting at Verein schutzbedürftige Hunde in Hunde Hilfe.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pitty, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pitty?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Verein schutzbedürftige Hunde handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pitty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pitty if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Verein schutzbedürftige Hunde will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Pitty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pitty isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Verein schutzbedürftige Hunde early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pitty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
