Adopt Pixie

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy

Name Pixie Born May 2025 Gender female dog Breed mixed breed Size small, approx. 25 cm; 6Kilo foster home Pixie arrived at their foster home in the Mainz area on January 17, 2026, and is welcome to be visited there. The ages mentioned here are often estimates, as we don't always know the exact age. Other details like size are subjective. The little mouse made it to a foster home in Germany and has settled in well. She gets along well with the older male dogs of the foster parents. However, she can also be a bit demanding. She could also be a great singleton princess 😉 Walking on a leash works well. Outdoors, she observes everything new with interest and needs plenty of time to sniff around. Other dogs still scare her a bit, but it's no wonder since most of them are much larger than Pixie. With her just over 6 kilos, she is really a small crumb. She plays well with dogs of the same size and is generally compatible with fellow animals. Being picked up is no problem, and she is generally uncomplicated, smart, and eager to learn. What causes her the most trouble at the moment is driving a car, which has improved significantly and is being practiced diligently. Otherwise, she is typical of a young puppy, playful, and needs adequate mental stimulation. She can also keep herself occupied with her toys and chew toys. Here is her story: The little PIXIE once had a home. She lived with the little ELLY with a woman who had to give both female dogs up to the shelter due to financial hardship. She said she loved her dogs very much and hopes they find a better home. PIXIE and ELLY are likely to remain small and delicate. Both are truly magical, very people-oriented, and ready to leave the shelter as soon as possible. They get along well with other dogs. What we don't know… compatibility with cats, children, driving, house training, leash walking… We don't provide perfect dogs but surprises 🙂. We are looking for people who are willing to take on the adventure of an international dog and give them a second chance at a responsible home. Pixie stands in for 100 young puppies waiting to experience real life. Here you will find more little faces hoping for their luck : If interested in this wonderful dog, please fill out the referral form or call us at the phone number provided. Here are a few pictures. About Pixie

What life with Pixie looks like

Pixie is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. in Zornheim.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pixie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pixie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pixie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pixie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pixie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pixie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pixie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
