Adopt Pol

Mixed Breed · Male

This is a dog who is hard to notice, though he would do anything to become invisible. In the animal shelter, he is a shadow of a dog—lying quietly in his kennel and looking at the world with great distrust. He does not tolerate the shelter conditions well. It is too much noise, stress, and stimuli for him. Looking at him, you can see that somewhere along the way he lost his joy and hope. Pol has a return from adoption in his past. This experience only deepened his fear and made it even harder for him to trust humans. Today, he needs someone who understands that his withdrawal is not a lack of desire but an enormous fear. We are looking for a caregiver for Pol—someone patient and experienced who can give him time, space, and a sense of safety. Pol requires introduction walks and must be walked on double-leash. He is still a bit afraid of walks, and new situations are very difficult for him, but small steps are yielding results. Slowly, he is learning that a walk can mean something good. Every calm, safe step is a small victory for him. He gets along well with other dogs, and their presence can add to his courage. In the right home, with a well-balanced canine companion by his side, he might feel more secure. Pol is not a "ready-to-go" dog. He won't approach for a pat right away, and he won't show his joy effusively. We believe that beneath the layer of fear, there is still a sensitive, good dog waiting for his human… ul. POL - to pies, którego trudno nie zauważyć, choć on sam zrobiłby wszystko, by stać się niewidzialnym. About Pol

What life with Pol looks like

Pol is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Kielce in Kielce.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pol, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pol?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Kielce handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pol on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pol if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Kielce will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pol already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pol isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Kielce early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pol and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
