Adopt Polly

Female · Adult · 5 years

Polly – a cheerful little Spitz female dog seeks her home Polly is a charming little Spitz female dog who originally came to us as a found dog. After we finally established contact with the original owners, it was decided that Polly could stay with us and we are now searching for a suitable new home for her. When first meeting new people, typical Spitz behavior is for Polly to be attentive and loud – she happily greets visitors with excited barking. However, if given a moment to herself and the opportunity to make contact at her own pace, she quickly shows her cheerful and very friendly side. Then the ice is usually broken quickly, and Polly is enthusiastic with her open nature. Polly is an absolutely lively and active female dog who likes to be in the middle of things. She seems to already have experience with children, as she also handles loud chaos well. She especially likes bringing her ball and charmingly invites play – shared activities bring her great joy. We can imagine Polly well in an active home where she gets enough mental stimulation, attention, and shared adventures. With enough trust and bonding, we can also imagine her as a companion in everyday life – for example, on city outings or even in a restaurant. Leaving her alone still needs to be practiced further. Currently, at Polly's shelter, she shows that she makes herself known when she is ignored for a longer time. With the right engagement, patience, and training, this should develop well. Polly is generally compatible with other dogs and also gets along well with significantly larger fellow animals – as long as she also gets attention. Overall, Polly is a uncomplicated, cheerful female dog who brings a lot of fun into the lives of her people. We can imagine her well with engaged new dog owners who are looking for a lively, clever, and lovable Spitz.

About Polly

What life with Polly looks like

Polly is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Tierheim Ettlingen in Ettlingen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Polly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Polly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ettlingen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Polly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Polly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ettlingen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Polly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Polly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ettlingen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Polly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
