Polly

Lurcher · Female · Young · 2 years

Polly is a gorgeous girl, but is currently a little on the skinny side! She is a big fan of food, and this will help with any ongoing training. She tries her best to keep her kennel clean, but may need a bit of support in her new home with this. She would also prefer for her people to be home for most of the time at first, but could eventually be left for up to 6hours with a break once settled. Polly is a superstar, and has so much love to give. She is wonderfully friendly with everyone she meets, dogs and humans alike. She loves to explore new places, to get her sniffs in! She's a super sweet-natured girl, who will make her new family so incredibly happy. Polly loves other dogs and will initiate gentle play, but may get a bit overexcited with smaller dogs due to her prey drive - any playmates should be of medium size and above! This young lass deserves the best, and will make her new adopters smile everyday. Meet beautiful girl Polly, a sweet 2-year old Saluki X Lurcher looking for her forever home. Polly is the sweetest, cuddliest girl who loves to play and loves people! Polly is super cuddly with her handlers on any sofa or floor she can find. Polly could live with another medium/large sized dog in the home, as she is playful and bouncy! Polly loves to get out and about for walks, and walks beautifully on the lead. She would prefer for all children to be primary school aged and over, as she can jump up to say hi! Polly has been spotted playing with her toys in her kennel, but prefers to have her people involved. She loves treats, and eats well but her favourite thing ever is her friends. Polly is looking for an active home that can take her on lots of fun adventures! She is an active lady, with lots of energy so would need a home that can keep up with this. At the same time, she does enjoy cuddling on the sofa with her people so could be the best of both worlds! We can't wait to see her thriving on her forever sofa.

About Polly

What life with Polly looks like

Polly is a large young adult lurcher dog waiting at Dogs Trust Cardiff in Cardiff.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Polly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Polly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Cardiff handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Polly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Polly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Cardiff will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Polly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Polly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Cardiff early rather than rehoming privately; they know Polly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
