Polpetta

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 18 years

Polpetta is a sweet little cat with a difficult past, arriving at our abandoned cat animal shelter with other unfortunate little companions. They were fragile kittens, rescued from the streets and welcomed with hope to give them a new chance. Unfortunately, their story was marked by a tragedy: shortly after their arrival, some of them fell ill with FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), a disease that is unfortunately very serious in cats. Not all of them made it, and we had to bid farewell to some of these little ones with great sorrow. Amidst so much suffering, however, Polpetta managed to demonstrate an extraordinary strength. Today, she is a serene, affectionate, and full-of-life cat. Despite having faced tough moments, Polpetta is doing well and loves to receive cuddles, attention, and moments of tranquility at our animal shelter. Polpetta tested negative for FeLV (Feline Leukemia), a condition that makes it more complex to find her a traditional adoptive family. For this reason, we are looking for a distance adoption for her, a gesture of love that can truly make a difference in the life of a special cat like her. Supporting Polpetta with a distance adoption means contributing to her care, quality food, veterinary check-ups, and everything needed to ensure her a dignified and peaceful life at our abandoned cat animal shelter. Even though she won't live physically with you, you will become part of her story and her future. If you want to learn more about diseases like FeLV, understand how distance adoptions work, and discover how you can help Polpetta and other abandoned cats, we invite you to read the dedicated sections on our website. Together, we can transform a sad story into a path of care, love, and hope. About Polpetta

What life with Polpetta looks like

Polpetta is a small senior mixed breed cat waiting at Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali in Italy.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Polpetta, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Polpetta?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Polpetta on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Polpetta if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Polpetta already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Polpetta isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali early rather than rehoming privately; they know Polpetta and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
