Pongo

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Pongo – From the shadow of neglect to the shining heart dog, Pongo's story is one that touches the soul and is filled with hope. When he was found, he was barely recognizable: emaciated, without fur, sick, and seemingly marked by life. He had simply been left on the street, to his fate. There must have been a time when no one cared for him – when he had to fight alone. But Pongo did not give up. When he arrived at our shelter, and finally received medical care, it turned out that he was suffering from leishmaniasis. But even that could not break him. With the right treatment, Pongo began to recover step by step, and what then happened is almost like a small miracle: his fur grew back, his body became stronger, and from the weak, sick dog, a beautiful, shining man with a special glow emerged. And just as beautiful as his appearance is his nature. Pongo is an incredibly social, loving, and cheerful dog. He loves people, seeks their company, and enjoys every caress as if he had missed it for so long. His eyes speak a language of their own, full of gratitude, trust, and hope. He is playful, clever, and attentive. Pongo wants to please, is eager to learn, and brings everything that one could wish for in a loyal companion. With other dogs, he gets along wonderfully, is friendly, and uncomplicated. Therefore, it would not be a problem if there is already a confident only dog in the family that Pongo can snuggle up to. Pongo is not a dog who clings to the past. He looks forward. He runs, plays, enjoys every moment, and shows every day that it is worth fighting. His enthusiasm is contagious and makes him a very special companion. For Pongo, we wish for a home where he can finally arrive. People who will not leave him behind, who love him as he is, and who give him the security he has long missed. Pongo is proof that something beautiful can emerge even from the darkest moments.

About Pongo

What life with Pongo looks like

Pongo is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pongo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pongo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pongo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pongo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pongo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pongo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pongo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
