Pongor

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

This beautiful dog was named Pongor at the shelter. He was spotted wandering alone in Kecskemét on 18.4.2026 and reported to the shelter by concerned passersby. The shelter staff immediately responded and Pongor was brought to the shelter unharmed. Unfortunately, as is often the case, he was neither chipped nor reported missing, something we will never understand... We do not know how long Pongor had been on his own. He is now waiting at the shelter for his new humans, who will walk his life's path with him and show him the sunny sides of life. Hopefully very soon! He is not a dog for everyone, but a real personality with edges and corners. At three years old, he is in the middle of life, has passed puberty and knows exactly who he is. Herd protection-typically, he brings a big heart, but also a healthy dose of independence and vigilance. He does not like everyone, but for those he has given his heart, they stay forever. He likes to decide for himself, probably due to his breed and past, and if he does not want to do something, he can show it. He therefore needs dog-experienced people who work with him patiently and confidently and show him step by step that he can rely on us humans and does not have to make decisions for everyone. Pongor does not know much about the dog ABC yet, so his new owners should enjoy training with him and lovingly teach him a few things. Pongor currently lives alone in a kennel, he has already been on the playground with Edwina, which worked well. Pongor wants to live in the countryside and a garden would be an advantage. For our wonderful Pongor, we are looking for the famous needle in the haystack. Sovereign people who can handle strong personalities and give Pongor the leadership he needs, but also leave him some freedom, can "read" dogs and accept him as he is. Pongor will soon realize how great life with humans can be when he is understood and loved and you overcome highs and lows together. Who gives Pongor a chance? Pongor is ready to travel.

About Pongor

What life with Pongor looks like

Pongor is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pongor, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pongor?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pongor on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pongor if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Pongor already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pongor isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pongor and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
