Pony

Pony was rehomed to Leipzig as a second cat thanks to Tierhilfe Leipzig Land e.V. on 10.03.2015. In the future, he will enjoy the sun on his balcony! ———————————————————————— I am male, neutered and born in 2001. I have been waiting for a new home since January 2015. This is what my caregivers say about me: Pony is the first of several cats who were given up by their owners due to moving. Originally, it was a wild population, but you can no longer tell. At first, Pony is shy, but warms up after a day or two. He is a delicate and gentle snuggler, who now greets all visitors, but never becomes pushy. We wish this loving senior a new home soon, preferably as a second pet. Also, his former owner would certainly be happy to hear that the gentle and modest snuggler has found a new home… eMail:

About Pony

What life with Pony looks like

Pony is a medium-sized senior mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pony, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pony?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pony on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pony if I live in another country?: Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Pony already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pony isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pony and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
