Ponys

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 5 years

Sara, Jana, Jaka, and Lea, four Mini Shettys, are looking for a new home! Sara (aka Schokobiene, 5 years old, mare, dark) is very affectionate. Jana (5 years old, mare, fox-colored, black halter, very short forehead fringes) is also very affectionate. Jaka (5 years old, gelding, lighter) has laminitis, therefore receives pain medication, but this is being reduced on a trial basis. He is not allowed on a normal meadow due to the laminitis. He was anxious when he came to us, but is already building trust. Lea (6 years old, mare, fox-colored) was also anxious when she came to us and is already building trust. She needs enough time for this, as she will resist if she is pushed. The ponies can be given to a group individually, otherwise they will be given at least in pairs. Of course, a species-appropriate living environment is a prerequisite!

About Ponys

What life with Ponys looks like

Ponys is a medium-sized adult mixed breed horse waiting at Tierschutz Austria in Vienna.

Adopting a horse is a long-term commitment that almost always requires either land or a boarding stable. The shelter will discuss the horse's training level, vet history, and what kind of work or companionship they're suited for. Expect ongoing costs: feed, farrier, vet, and stabling.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ponys, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ponys?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ponys on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ponys if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ponys already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most horses on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ponys isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ponys and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
