Poppy

Female Β· Young Β· 2 years

Poppy has sadly found herself back at Last Chance due to her owner no longer being able to cope with her reactivity. Poppy originally came to us at 9 months old from the pound so we don’t have much history on her. We do believe that she received little training and socialising before coming into us. She is a lovely girl who has lots of energy so will need an active home with a secure garden of her own to run around and play off lead. Poppy loves her long walks though she can pull on the lead so will need some lead training. Poppy can be a little nervous of new people at first and can be reactive to strangers so she will need slow introductions to people and gentle socialising. Once she knows and trusts you Poppy is a big baby who just wants cuddles and to play! Poppy loves to play ball and is often carrying her toys around her kennel or on her walks. Poppy can be nervous around some dogs and react to them when out on her walks however with slow introductions she has made many friends here at Last Chance. Poppy will need understanding and patient owners who are able to continue slowly socialising her with people and dogs to help her overcome her fears. In her previous home Poppy did resource guard her food so would benefit from a home who has experience with this. Poppy truly is a lovely girl who with the right socialisation and training will make an amazing addition to the family. She will need to go to an adult only home with no visiting children and needs to be the only pet in the home.

About Poppy

What life with Poppy looks like

Poppy is a large young adult dog waiting at Last Chance Animal Rescue in Edenbridge.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible β€” a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Poppy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Poppy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Last Chance Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Poppy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Poppy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Last Chance Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Poppy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Poppy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Last Chance Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Poppy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
