Poppy

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 1 year

Estimated age: June 2025 Medical: vaccinated, chipped, dewormed, flea-treated, and spayed. Character: see description! Housebroken: yes Origin: stray ID: 1830 Poppy was found while she had just given birth to 4 beautiful kittens. She has been a very devoted mother to them. At first, Poppy was very self-contained and did not leave her room with her offspring. She let herself be petted a little and trusted people just enough that they were allowed to pet and pick up her kittens. Poppy is most likely an outdoor cat because she had to get used to TVs and phones at the foster home, while a vacuum cleaner and lawn mower did not impress her. She has now made huge strides and sleeps relaxed by the TV, preferably near you. This sweet lady is shy and finds strangers a bit intimidating, but with kind words and liquid snacks, you quickly win Poppy's heart. She enjoys visibly and audibly purring from being petted and stroked. She drags plush toys around for you as prey and fishing rods with strings are also becoming more fun. Poppy's kittens have just taught her how much fun it is to play together. So she is looking for a home with people who have patience. However, given how much progress she has made, there is even more kindness in her than she shows now. Once she has won her trust, she will greet you every day with a lot of noise and a vibrating tail. There is no nicer way to come home! Do you want to meet Poppy? Indicate this via the form. We will then contact you to make an appointment. Without an appointment, an acquaintance is not possible. A cat is not chosen lightly, so we have a strict selection for our shelter cats. During a first acquaintance, a cat is not placed. We also want to meet the whole family. You can take all the time you need at the shelter to get to know each other and ask our employees questions. After a positive first acquaintance, a second appointment will follow and further appointments will be made.

Geschatte leeftijd: juni 2025 Medisch: gevaccineerd, gechipt, ontwormd, ontvlooid en gesteriliseerd. Karakter: zie omschrijving!

About Poppy

What life with Poppy looks like

Poppy is a young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Dierenopvang Hart van Brabant in Netherlands.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Poppy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Poppy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenopvang Hart van Brabant handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Poppy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Poppy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenopvang Hart van Brabant will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Poppy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Poppy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenopvang Hart van Brabant early rather than rehoming privately; they know Poppy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
