Poppy

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Urgent adoption or foster care needed! Hello everyone! This is Poppy. It’s been a few months since you’ve seen me around here, and there’s a really lovely reason for that: I’ve been living in a foster home, enjoying a deeply happy life. Unfortunately, that chapter is coming to an end, and in August, it’s time for me to return to the shelter. I know full well that my dear volunteers are waiting for me there with open arms—and I’m so grateful to them from the bottom of my heart—but I can’t help thinking about my future. You see, I’m already an older dog (I really don’t like the word “old”—because only things get old!). At my age, all I’d really love is to keep enjoying the warmth of a loving home. What am I like? A very calm dog. My favorite activities? I absolutely love sleeping peacefully, taking a leisurely stroll now and then, and above all, welcoming my humans home with my biggest smile and a big wag of my tail. Because of all this, I’m available for a new foster home or for adoption. Adoption... what a wonderfully beautiful word! For now, I’ll say goodbye. I hope someone reads this, their heart softens just a little, and they’ll soon get in touch with Aloia Protectora de Animais to give me the chance I need. With lots of love and a little lick, Poppy Call, ask, adopt:

About Poppy

What life with Poppy looks like

Poppy is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Aloia Protectora in Tui.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Poppy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Poppy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Aloia Protectora handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Poppy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Poppy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Aloia Protectora will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Poppy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Poppy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Aloia Protectora early rather than rehoming privately; they know Poppy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
