Poppy

Male · Adult · 5 years

Poppy is a black short-haired dog - a medium-sized dog, reaching below the knee, with a friendly disposition. He arrived at the animal shelter well-groomed, with a shiny coat - everything points to the fact that he once had a home… Poppy loves movement and long walks. He walks very nicely on a leash, happily responds to his caregiver and eagerly runs to him when called. He has a lot of energy, is open to cooperation and shared activities. However, he is not a dog that needs a lot of attention, he can organize his time on a walk and explore the dog world, preferably by nose, and have some space for himself. He needs a moment to get to know a new person, but he quickly includes them in his pack. It's with his human, on a walk, that Poppy is the happiest! Poppy can get along with calm dogs and nicely stroll with them, but he tells nervous dogs firmly: hau hau. Sometimes he checks the other dog's boundaries directly, sometimes just observing from a distance is enough. Overall, he is curious about other dogs. The stay at the animal shelter is very difficult for Poppy. He doesn't relieve himself in the crate, and the lack of freedom and adequate amount of exercise causes frustration and lowers his mood. This is a dog who really needs a home. We are looking for a quiet home for our little coal, who likes walks, will take care of his needs and - most importantly - will give him time to calm down from the emotions of the shelter, without overwhelming him with stimuli. Poppy will be a great companion for trips and much more, just - for ordinary everyday life in an urban, quieter space. A nice, mature dog, who for some reason is still waiting for his most important person. Poppy warmly invites you for a walk, when you drop by? :)

Poppy to taki czarny krótkołapek - piesek średniej wielkości, sięgający poniżej kolana, o przyjacielskim usposobieniu. Poppy kocha ruch i długie spacery. :)

About Poppy

What life with Poppy looks like

Poppy is a small adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: High exercise needs, struggles with confinement, needs patient adopter for post-shelter adjustment

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Poppy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Poppy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Poppy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Poppy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Poppy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Poppy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Poppy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
