adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Preto was captured by the animal police and brought to the public shelter in Baia Mare. Here, he sits 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in his small pen, waiting to be discovered. The highlight of the day is the feeding once a day. Contact with people or free roam is not allowed here. We do not know what he has already experienced in his life, but it was likely not an easy one. Preto was initially very scared and had to get used to the new situation. He enjoys the affection of the staff when they are outside the pen. However, he still cannot fully assess people. He must learn to trust people again with patience. Our Preto must also get used to the events at the shelter, which are overwhelming due to all the noise, dirt, and smell. Compatibility with other animals has not yet been tested. The approximately 4.5-year-old Preto has black fur and hazel eyes, as his name (preto, Portuguese for black) describes. For Preto, we are looking for patient dog lovers who know what to expect and are willing to accept him as he is. He needs someone who will give him time to settle into his new home and stand by him with love and understanding. He likely does not know what life with a family is like and therefore does not know any rules or house training. His new family should therefore be patient with him and forgive small mistakes at the beginning. A foster home could also be very helpful for him. After a phase of getting used to things, a visit to dog training classes that work with positive reinforcement would also benefit Preto. There, he could play with other dogs and learn the dog ABC with his people. We are looking for a quiet and experienced home for our black beauty. Preto travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. He brings his EU pet passport and can be adopted with a positive Schenkenst du dem beautiful Preto finally his home? Many thanks, Mahi. Thanks to you, Preto has a great name and a chance to find his family. As of: 10.03.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 10.03.2026

About Preto

What life with Preto looks like

Preto is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Preto, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Preto?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Preto on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Preto if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Preto already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Preto isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Preto and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
