Puffy

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Puffy is currently at a foster home and can only be visited by appointment - Breed: Maltese. Gender: male/uncastrated Age: born 03.11.2025 in the animal shelter since: 12.07.2026 Special features: Have you seen Puffy's photo and are you shockingly in love? We can understand that, because Puffy is a very sweet guy both externally and internally. He binds himself very strongly to his person, this one may do everything with him, he wants to please her and follow her on step and step. However, here also begins his problem. For Puffy, his admittedly so far very small world has collapsed when he landed in the animal shelter. This is why he has developed a pronounced fear of loss and a strong control compulsion. He therefore cannot bear it at the moment to be away from his human even for a minute, this also applies to toilet visits of his human. He then completely loses himself and barks, howls and destroys out of pure frustration. Therefore Puffy is looking for a home where someone is always there for him and he never has to be alone. Certainly he would also like to accompany his human to work. Since Puffy in his previous home did not get to know much, he is age-wise still a puppy, but with the knowledge level of a puppy. He is not yet completely house trained and does not know any basic commands or rules. In situations that are unknown to him, he is quickly overwhelmed and startled. Therefore it would be highly recommended to attend a dog school. He learns quickly and has noticed in the 2 days at his foster home that being taken with the car is good. Then he is calm and relaxed in his box, but it can happen that he throws up on longer trips. On the leash he runs super and then only has eyes for his person. But what Puffy does not like at all is to be touched by strangers. He then initially steps back, but it is not excluded that he would also snap if pressed. That he is willing to use his teeth has already been shown in the animal shelter. His new people must therefore keep him well in mind when contact with strangers, during visits to the vet and dog groomer and possibly secure him with a muzzle. The dwarf is very good with dogs and could therefore also be mediated to a nice second dog at which he can orient himself. This is not necessary, however, because his human goes over everything for him. Because of the loud noises caused by fear of loss and because it already becomes clear after a few days in his foster home that he is vigilant, Puffy will not be placed in an apartment building. If you are interested in Puffy and are sure that you want to work with Puffy on his construction sites and stand by him no matter what comes, then please contact the animal shelter.

About Puffy

What life with Puffy looks like

Puffy is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Lübbersdorf in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Puffy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Puffy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Lübbersdorf handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Puffy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Puffy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Lübbersdorf will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Puffy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Puffy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Lübbersdorf early rather than rehoming privately; they know Puffy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
