Pumby

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Pumby is a young Podenco-mix male, born in February 2025. Standing knee-high and weighing around 15 kilograms, he strikes the perfect balance—handy, sporty, and perfectly suited for life on the couch. Anyone who meets him quickly realizes that this handsome dog has a big heart and an abundance of joy for life—and a deep desire to finally find a lifelong home as the best friend of a happy family. Pumby’s start in life was anything but easy. As a puppy, he was severely abused, left emaciated and traumatized. Arca Sevilla took him in. Because he was still so small, young, and frightened at the time, he was soon allowed to move into a foster family. There, for the first time, he received everything every puppy deserves: warmth, patience, closeness, and people who would protect him. The family fell so deeply in love with their little protégé that the foster home became his forever home. Pumby was adopted and grew into a friendly, curious, and incredibly lovable young dog. Now, unfortunately, Pumby must leave his home once again—not because he’s done anything wrong; quite the opposite. His people adore him dearly. However, serious personal reasons make it impossible for them to continue giving Pumby the time, attention, and reliability he needs. And so, deeply saddened and desperate, they’re now searching for a new home for their best friend—a home where he can once again be the center of attention, a beloved family member, and the dog of their hearts. Pumby is a real treasure. He’s friendly toward both young and old, big and small, and in everyday life he’s open, curious, and eager to learn. He knows what it’s like to live indoors, loves being close to his people, and excels at cuddling, snuggling, and simply being there for them. He also gets along wonderfully with cats. If you’re looking for a young dog who walks through life with a keen eye, loves learning new things, and at the same time cherishes tender moments of cuddling, you’ll find a wonderful companion in Pumby. Of course, Pumby hasn’t completely forgotten his traumatic experiences from puppyhood. In loud, hectic, or confusing situations, he can become skittish and anxious. When that happens, he doesn’t need pity or pressure—he needs people who stay calm, provide him with reliable guidance, and show him that he’s safe and that they’ve got his back. With loving consistency, patience, and a sense of security, Pumby can continue to build trust and grow bravely into the world. For Pumby, we’d like to find a loving, humorous family who understands his sensitive side yet also enjoys walking through life alongside a young, intelligent dog. People who can give him security, encourage him, laugh with him, cuddle with him, go for walks together, and step by step show him just how beautiful life can be. Whoever gives Pumby a home will gain a special friend with a story, character, and lots of love in tow—a dog who’s already been through a lot yet remains ready to open his heart once more. Maybe Pumby is waiting precisely for you—people who’ll see him exactly as he is and promise him that from now on he’ll never again have to fear having to leave his favorite humans behind.

DE·Show original

About Pumby

What life with Pumby looks like

Pumby is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pumby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pumby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pumby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pumby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pumby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pumby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pumby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
