Punk

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Dogs that are not born blind, but lose their sight later in life, always make you wonder what they were like when they could see. How did they move through the world? How confident were they? What was their life like? Their walk? Their posture? Punk arrived at the shelter already blind and exhausted from life on the streets, as well as from a chronic ear infection that had been troubling him for a long time. He has a very gentle nature. He is sweet, calm, and completely cooperative. He has accepted that this is his reality, and he finds joy in the small things we are able to offer him. Like all dogs with a disability, he does not perceive it the way humans do. For Punk, this is simply life, and he lives each day much like any other dog. He navigates the world primarily through his sense of smell and hearing. Punk also "maps" his surroundings and gently tests the space in front of him with his nose to determine whether there is an obstacle ahead. He loves going for walks. He has that wonderful gait so characteristic of blind dogs: lifting his front legs high before each step to avoid obstacles, as if he is trying to canter in slow motion. He is so skilled at finding his way around that he knows exactly where the cats are housed at the shelter. And for some reason, Punk is not a fan of cats at all. Punk is deeply people-oriented and understands that trusting humans makes his life easier. When out on walks, he stays closely connected to the person accompanying him and responds beautifully to guidance, whether it comes through a gentle tug on the leash or a simple word. Punk is a remarkably resilient dog. Because of his chronic ear condition, his ears will need regular monitoring. Thankfully, they are much improved now. He is no longer in pain, although he may still experience occasional discomfort from time to time. One thing is certain: life with Punk would be peaceful, steady, and free from drama or surprises. Whoever chooses to open their home to him will gain a wonderful, affectionate companion.

About Punk

What life with Punk looks like

Punk is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Save a Greek Stray in Metsovo.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Greek shelters often partner with Northern European rescue groups for placements. Animals are sterilized, vaccinated, and chipped before adoption. Fees vary widely depending on whether the shelter is municipal or NGO-run.

Frequently asked

Adopting Punk, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Punk?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Save a Greek Stray handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Punk on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Punk if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Save a Greek Stray will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Punk already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Punk isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Save a Greek Stray early rather than rehoming privately; they know Punk and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
