Adopt Püppi

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

My name is Püppi and I am a victim of the list and impulsive adoption. Against better knowledge, the previous owner kept Püppi illegally, which led to a holding ban in Brandenburg after about two years, where keeping them is generally prohibited. Despite this, the previous owner was committed and spent a lot of money to place Püppi safely in an animal shelter. First, a longer stay in a pension until there was space with us, then the surrender fee to our association. He regularly asks about Püppi's fate, her story is not unimportant to him, he misses his cuddly backside. For Püppi, who already as a puppy was suitable for apartment living, together with a Chihuahua male, the move to the pension and then to us was hard to cope with, even though she has now settled in. Püppi is absolutely typical of her breed, lively and cheerful. Unfortunately, her basic obedience is lacking, there is still need for improvement and also necessary with the weight and strength. Unfortunately, she had little contact with other dogs, but she gets along well with small male dogs. She should be cautiously introduced to further dog friends. Dogs outside the kennel are often teased, she allows correction from people she respects, but switches to full speed with others. Other animal species should not be in the new house, children should be older and steady, the parents accordingly experienced and responsible. Driving a car must still be trained, Püppi is housebroken, being alone after acclimatization is certainly no problem. Anyone interested in Püppi can leave the Muckibude aside for now, once Püppi runs well, you automatically gain muscle mass. And gain experience in dealing with authorities, because Püppi will only be rehomed in compliance with legal requirements, we are naturally helpful. With Püppi you get the best surprise egg you can get. Tension, fun and play. And extra cuddling time on top. And entertainment, dogs of this breed are real clowns, they give real rubber, reluctantly leave their favorite spot, can stand stoically in a corner for minutes, remain in curious body positions and make lovely sleeping noises, including snoring... And when she has had enough sleep, please start the whole egg dance again...with tension, play and chocolate as nerve food for the bipeds. This animal is house-trained.

About Püppi

What life with Püppi looks like

Püppi is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Püppi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Püppi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Püppi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Püppi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Püppi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Püppi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Püppi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
