adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Pyrus was rescued from the dog catchers at the last minute near Zalău. It is believed that he had lived alone for several months previously and had to learn to fend for himself and assert himself during this time. Currently, he is in a foster home in Zalău, but he spends about 90 percent of his day in a yard. We would very much like to find a home for Pyrus that can finally offer him security, structure, and a reliable primary caregiver. Pyrus shows himself to be a friendly, playful, and fundamentally people-oriented dog. Initially, he reacts skeptically to strangers and needs some time to build trust. If he gets this time, he quickly forms a close bond and is highly attuned to his primary caregiver. In his current foster home, he would like to accompany the caregiver everywhere and actively seeks their proximity. When it comes to other dogs, Pyrus is social, compatible, and unobtrusive. He also gets along well with cats, making him suitable for a home with other animals already present. Although he is an adult dog, Pyrus often behaves like a young dog that has had little opportunity to gather everyday experiences. On the leash, he already runs quite well, but can still be easily distracted. His concentration and focus need to be built up in small steps. For this, he needs people who meet him with patience, clarity, and a calm, positive guidance. Pyrus is about 62 centimeters tall, weighs around 30 kilograms, and looks like a German Shepherd mix. He is currently about 4 years old and has a lot of potential to develop into a loyal, stable, and reliable companion with the right support. For Pyrus, we are looking for people who can give him time to shed his insecurities and offer him a structured daily routine. A home where he can finally experience more of life outside of a yard would be of immense value to him. Even a foster home would greatly help him make this important step. Pyrus is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. He has an EU pet passport and is ready for adoption as of 05.05.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 05.05.2026

About Pyrus

What life with Pyrus looks like

Pyrus is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pyrus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pyrus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pyrus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pyrus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pyrus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pyrus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pyrus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
