Adopt Pyxis

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy

Description Sagitta and Pyxis were in a parcel with more hunting dogs living in terrible conditions. The neighbors' complaint obliged the parcel owner to improve the animals' living conditions. However, the man claimed that Sagitta and Pyxis were not his, saying they had been thrown over the fence. A very strange situation, but in reality, it was a stroke of luck for them because now they are in the animal shelter waiting for the opportunity they deserve. Sagitta had the luck of being adopted, but Pyxis continues to wait for the ideal family that will understand her, read her, and help her little by little lose her fear. Pyxis is a very shy puppy with humans. She arrived with a lot of fear, but little by little, we can see in her eyes that she wants to stop being afraid, to trust us, but it costs her a lot. She already approaches to take the treats from our hands and she likes to walk, although she always looks back, as she is not able to relax completely. She is a very social dog with other dogs; in fact, they are her support and connection with humans. Before, when she was with Sagitta, they were inseparable, and when they started sharing a cage with Chico, a very affectionate male to people, they took him as a reference. Now that Sagitta has left, Pyxis continues by Chico's side and walks much better, approaching us more when he is nearby, as she feels much more at ease and is carried away. She had an adoption attempt, but she did not even stay 24 hours in the house because she had the bad luck of escaping through the fence bars and spent days until we could catch her again. She needs a quiet and very patient family that understands that the dog is afraid and that she needs time to go little by little, to avoid stressing or escaping. A family that gives her space but that makes her understand that not all people are bad.

About Pyxis

What life with Pyxis looks like

Pyxis is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Keywords in Spain.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pyxis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pyxis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Keywords handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pyxis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pyxis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Keywords will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pyxis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pyxis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Keywords early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pyxis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
