RACHEL

Female · Senior · 10 years

Sighted: 05/08/2019 Breed: Mixed Sex: Female Microchip: BE656472762 Born: 29/09/2015 Country: Belgium At the shelter since: 05/08/2019 RACHEL had a difficult experience before arriving at our shelter, she was seized by authorities and removed from a terrible environment. She was part of a group of cattle living in a dump field, a place filled with trash and lacking food. Upon arrival, she was completely wild and very fearful, sometimes even dangerous. However, thanks to the careful and patient care of our caretakers, RACHEL gradually changed. She became more calm, showing signs of trust. Today, RACHEL is a gentle and peaceful cow, both with humans and her fellow animals of the same species, showing how love and kindness can even transform the most traumatized animals. RACHEL must live with, at minimum, another fellow animal of the same species. Adoption is possible only with a "permit to detain an animal." For more information, please contact us ONLY by telephone at 02 204 49 50. Visits are by appointment only.

About RACHEL

What life with RACHEL looks like

RACHEL is a senior dog waiting at Help Animals in Brussels.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting RACHEL, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about RACHEL?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Help Animals handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw RACHEL on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt RACHEL if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Help Animals will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is RACHEL already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if RACHEL isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Help Animals early rather than rehoming privately; they know RACHEL and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
