Racoon

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Male · Senior · 10 years

I am Racoon and have been waiting far too long for my own home. I am a dog with special needs—but also with a lot of potential. I am not a beginner dog, but a great companion for experienced breed owners. I walk calmly on the leash, don't pull, am friendly to familiar people, and handle walks and dog groups calmly and confidently. Without a muzzle, I sometimes get into a high state of excitement— but with an experienced person by my side, it gets better, and I show that daily. I love working and training on an equal footing. Currently, I am in a foster home where I am being trained a lot. There, I can live up to my full potential and make great progress. The environment makes a big difference to me. I remain calm in many situations and orient myself well to my human. I simply need someone who can take the time to understand me, read me, and provide structure and security. What sets me apart: I walk calmly on the leash and am very pleasant to handle outdoors. I don't pull with other dogs and can walk calmly in dog groups. With familiar people, I am friendly and open. With a muzzle, I do well in everyday life— I am focused and approachable. What you need to work on with me: I need a very structured, quiet daily routine without a lot of chaos. You should be experienced in handling challenging dogs. I can only be led with a muzzle and leash—this is regulated by law. Children should not live in my home. I wish for a home where I can be a solo prince, with people who understand dogs, have patience, and a clear, calm leadership style. A clear, calm presence defines you. Dog training classes would certainly be helpful. I simply need a place where I can build trust at my own pace—a home that is understanding and willing to manage me with a muzzle without putting me under pressure. An ideal home would have a structured daily routine without unnecessary chaos. Then, I will become a model student. Plan several visits to meet me, and a dog trainer will assist you. Additionally, you will need a breeding permit for me due to breed-specific requirements. The animal shelter is happy to assist with behavioral assessments and documentation. I could also join an existing female dog—sympathy will decide. I want to finally get a chance to prove myself. If you fit with me and want to meet me, please contact us through the request form below or call at our area.

About Racoon

What life with Racoon looks like

Racoon is a medium-sized senior staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Must wear muzzle by law, requires experienced handler due to high arousal episodes without muzzle, needs structured calm environment

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Racoon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Racoon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Racoon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Racoon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Racoon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Racoon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Racoon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
