Rada

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

Rada was successfully rehomed in May 2017, and we are delighted to wish Rada and her family a lot of action…. …………………………………………………………………………………………………………….. I am female, neutered, microchipped, and born in 2014. I am approximately 50cm in size. I have been waiting since February 2017 for a new home. My caretakers say about me: Rada is a surrender dog, as the owner was overwhelmed by their life situation and could no longer adequately care for their dearly loved animals. Rada was originally only meant to be temporarily housed with us until it was clear that a return to the home was not possible. She is a social dog and lived previously with small dogs. She is compatible with other animals, but with larger female dogs, her affable nature may not always be enough. Upon arrival with us, Rada quickly showed what a sports cannon she is; her leash manners are initially lacking. She knows a few basic commands but still requires further training. She likes people of all sizes and ages and gets very excited. Despite her effusive temperament, she has a certain degree of obedience; she is absolutely house-trained, and also does well as a companion on car rides. As Rada is extremely enthusiastic, one only needs to press the right buttons. Rada wants to please by breed, but her overexuberance often gets in the way, and she must learn to control herself. She loves snuggling, playing, and sports and possesses a good character that just needs to be brought out. With proper guidance, Rada can become an absolute family dream. There is nothing about her that wouldn't be solvable with consistent training. She loves work, movement, play, and is not a couch potato. Cuddle sessions are also not to be missed; at her core, she is sensitive and very in need of affection. A life as a second dog would be ideal, although other female dogs would need to be tested accordingly. Other pets living in the household would also require training and a period of adjustment for the interested party. Ideally, if children are present, they should be a bit older and more sturdy. A house with a garden would be ideal, but is not a condition. Of course, she enjoys every petting session, and even the quiet times are kept to a minimum, with only minor exceptions. She can be left alone for some time. A sports car as a dog dream… we and the previous owners would be overjoyed if Rada finally has her own family again and can hit the ground running…. The descriptions are impressions and photos of the animal in our animal shelter and our foster homes. Each animal can develop differently in their new home. Gets along with other dogs.

About Rada

What life with Rada looks like

Rada is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rada, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rada?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rada on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rada if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rada already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rada isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rada and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
