Rafa

Beagle · Male · Young · 2 years

Rafa - a shy Beagle heart is looking for people with patience and love! The handsome Rafa is still a bit uncertain and shy. He is one of those dogs that do not immediately rush towards every person, but first observe cautiously. Rafa needs time, patience and loving people who give him the opportunity to arrive at his own pace and build trust. Beagles were originally pack dogs bred for hunting together. They are sociable, active and have an excellent nose. Therefore, we wish for Rafa a home where he is not only physically, but also mentally fulfilled. Extensive walks, exciting sniffing rounds and nose work are exactly the activities that bring joy to a Beagle. Contact with other dogs is also particularly valuable for these sociable dogs. For Rafa, we are looking for a rather quiet, understanding home with people who do not have immediate expectations of him. People who give him security, gently introduce him to new situations and show him how beautiful a dog life can be. Who will give our shy Rafa the time he needs and a place where he can finally trust and open his little Beagle heart? Rafa would also be very happy about a foster home. Here is Rafa's video.

About Rafa

What life with Rafa looks like

Rafa is a young adult beagle dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rafa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rafa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rafa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rafa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Rafa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rafa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rafa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
