How do I contact the shelter about Rafaella?

Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rafaella on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.

Can I adopt Rafaella if I live in another country?

Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.

Is Rafaella already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?

Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.

What happens if Rafaella isn't the right fit?

Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rafaella and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.

Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?

TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.

Rafaella

Podenco · Female · Adult · 4 years

Rafaella is a lovely and beautiful Podenco in need of a forever home in the Netherlands since May 7, 2025. Rafaella is calm and easygoing indoors but needs plenty of exercise. She enjoys walks in the woods and is very alert, noticing every movement of a fly or bird. Rafaella has a strong hunting instinct and cannot be placed with cats. She will get along with another stable dog, but she needs a lot of exercise and stimulation, so a garden is essential. The garden must be fully and sufficiently fenced. Rafaella can be visited in Steenwijk. Update: April 16, 2025, a volunteer shares: We took Rafaella on a walk, away from the shelter. We got to know this beautiful tricolor dog as a medium-sized dog that does not pull on the leash, seeks support while walking, and is still getting used to unexpected situations. She gets along well with other dogs and showed interest in a class with older children on the walk. Who wants to give this modest cuddly girl a forever home? Where is her golden bed? Original text: Rafaella was rescued by a man from a death station. His name was Rafael, hence her name. She is a beautiful dog to look at, a somewhat uncertain dog at first, but once you get to know her, she reveals herself as a loving and loyal companion. She is social and affectionate with other dogs, calm and patient, not pushy. Rafaella has a strong aversion to the shelter, where she longs for that one owner who will bring her happiness and vice versa. Who can give this sweetheart a heaven on earth?

About Rafaella

What life with Rafaella looks like

Rafaella is a adult podenco dog waiting at ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) in Spain.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.
