How do I contact the shelter about Ragù?

Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ragù on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.

Can I adopt Ragù if I live in another country?

Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.

Is Ragù already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?

Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.

What happens if Ragù isn't the right fit?

Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ragù and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.

Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?

TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.

Ragù

Male · Adult · 8 years

tomcat Ragù lived in a cat colony until he was hit by a car and taken to the vet for treatment. During the examinations, the tomcat tested positive for FIV. Because of this and because he proved to be trusting, he should not return to the colony, and a kind man took Ragù in. However, the two wolfhounds of the man chase the tomcat whenever they see him. To protect Ragù, he has to be kept in the bathroom most of the day. Since this is not a good option for the rest of his life, we want to give the dear tomcat a chance to find a new home in Germany. On May 9, 2025, Ragù was able to start his journey to Germany and now awaits nice people who want to adopt him in Gauting near Munich. June 2025: After initially appearing anxious and very shy upon arrival, Ragù was thoroughly checked by a vet and had a necessary dental cleaning performed. He has now settled well with his foster family and gained trust. He is truly blossoming, enjoys being petted, rolls onto his back, and wants to be rubbed on his belly. He also likes to play when it's not too hectic. Ragù is looking for a quieter home with people who will give him time to settle in. Cat companions should be friendly and not dominant. If his people have plenty of time for Ragù, he could also be happy as an only cat. If you would like to take Ragù into your family, we look forward to your message. Generally, for our cats, we prefer homes that are suitable for apartment living with connected balconies or secure terraces. An enclosed (netted) balcony is required for cat safety.

About Ragù

What life with Ragù looks like

Ragù is a adult cat waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.
