Adopt Rako

Mixed Breed · Male

Rako is a 5-year-old smaller male. He came to our animal shelter at the end of May 2021 from Gmina Szczurowa. His former owner neglected him, and thus Rako ended up with us. He is a wonderful friend every day, very attached to the caregiver. He always wants to be underfoot, one of his favorite activities is rolling in the grass, preferably under the caregiver's feet, which he can do for hours. The dog's smile never leaves his face, he is calm on a daily basis, but when on the yard he can show how much energy he has, and he mainly needs companions, because he gets bored alone. He loves playing, readily runs after balls, or plays tug-of-war, and when he gets tired he usually starts rolling in the grass. During walks, he nicely focuses on the handler using treats, and thus the guy is easier to train. Rako is neutered and vaccinated, has all the vaccinations. He is regularly dewormed and protected against fleas and ticks. Adoptions are from Tuesday to Saturday from 9-14.

About Rako

What life with Rako looks like

Rako is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Azyl dla Zwierząt w Tarnowie in Tarnów.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rako, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rako?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Azyl dla Zwierząt w Tarnowie handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rako on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rako if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Azyl dla Zwierząt w Tarnowie will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rako already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rako isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Azyl dla Zwierząt w Tarnowie early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rako and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
