Ranja

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

At the animal shelter since: January 2023 Estimated age: born around May 2022 Estimated shoulder height: about 50 – 59 cm Get to know our fluffy Ranja directly in the video! Ranja, a special female dog looking for her humans! This furball comes from a killing station in Romania. We explain how the dogs get there and much more in our animal protection FAQ. Ranja has been waiting several years for her forever home in Germany and is more than ready to finally arrive. In recent years, Ranja has made a wonderful development. From the overexcited and overstimulated female dog of that time, she has become a watchful, loving and attentive companion. She loves cuddles, shows interest in everything around her and wants to please her human. Ranja loves movement and long walks, during which she curiously explores her surroundings. She is used to her harness and shows great joy in running - her energy should be lovingly and purposefully directed. Under clear and consistent guidance, she learns to regulate herself better and increasingly relies on her humans in new or exciting situations. Currently, Ranja lives with a friendly male dog, with whom she gets along very well. She is ready to give her heart - maybe exactly to you? We suspect that Ranja is a herding dog (HSH). Please inform yourself here about the requirements for adopting a herding dog. HSH mixes are often very independent and need a confident leadership. Ranja receives hypoallergenic food, as she has shown some allergic tendencies in the past such as eczema, itching or ear infections. Our adoption team knows best about the exact health condition. If you have any questions, feel free to send us a message. For Ranja we wish a home with experienced, active people without small children, who are willing to work further with her and accompany her lovingly but consistently. Ideally people who enjoy being outdoors or can imagine an active mental stimulation with a dog. We wish for this furball people who are aware that rescue dogs bring a certain history with them. We can never predict how a dog will react to life in Germany. Therefore, we are looking for people who bring patience, perseverance and goodwill. But one thing is certain: Whoever adopts instead of buys not only gives an animal a second chance, but actively decides against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by their side. Already in love? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you are considering adoption, please read the adoption process first. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas and neutered (the exception are puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are additionally tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, feel free to write to our adoption team.

About Ranja

What life with Ranja looks like

Ranja is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ranja, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ranja?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ranja on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ranja if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ranja already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ranja isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ranja and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
