Reks

Male · Adult · 7 years

Reks - an average name, an extraordinary character. The owner with characteristic white whiskers, that is Reks, is about 7 years old, but he himself doesn't entirely agree with that and behaves like a younger dog. He came to the animal shelter after the death of his caregiver and although his world suddenly stopped, he remained calm and attentive, as if trying to reorganize everything anew. Every day in this place, however, is a challenge for him and a longing for home life, which he knows very well. He is a dog with clear terrier characteristics: he walks his own paths, sniffs a lot and has an independence that is hard to miss. He likes to know what's stirring in the grass, makes his own decisions, but does so with class and without the slightest aggression. He passes other dogs calmly or with reserve - he doesn't seek conflicts, doesn't provoke. He is unconditionally loving towards people. In the kennel, he can confidently curl up on your knees and accept pats, as if saying: "now it's my turn". He likes closeness, but isn't pushy. He has a balance between independence and the need for contact. Reks knows city life and easily finds his way in daily routine. He can cope both in a house with a garden and in an apartment - what matters most for him is to have his person again. It's a dog that doesn't need to prove anything. Just give him a place by your side, and it will quickly become clear that behind an ordinary name lies an exceptional personality. About Reks

What life with Reks looks like

Reks is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Reks, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Reks?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Reks on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Reks if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Reks already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Reks isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Reks and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
