Adopt Rex

Belgian Malinois · Male · Adult · 6 years

Our Rex is looking for a new forever family! Personality: Rex is a loving, happy, playful dog when it comes to the ball and can be affectionate. Ideal environment and home: His new home must be in the countryside. His adopters must be very present for him. The family can consist of children from 14 years old. Rex does not know cats, they will have to be avoided within the home. Experience required: Not suitable as a first dog. Much experience, ideally with the breed, will be required to adopt Rex. Indeed, he suffers from separation anxiety and must be worked on for his well-being! His new family must be accompanied by a professional in the canine world. Compatibility: Rex reacts to other animals of the same species. This point, with the help of an educator, must be worked on to ensure calmer walks. Crossings with farm animals generally go very well. Special needs: Rex has a measure imposed by the cantonal veterinarian. He must be kept on a leash for any outing on public property. Rex will need involved people in his education to pass a behavior test that will lift the mandatory leash requirement. As long as he is with humans, Rex is a calm dog; his separation anxiety is not a light matter. If you think you can offer the active and adventurous life that Rex deserves, we would be delighted to meet you! In case of interest, please complete the online form "request - interest in adopting a dog". If the criteria explicitly required in the presentation texts of the dogs are not respected, no further action will be taken on the adoption request. Please also read our placement philosophy. About Rex

What life with Rex looks like

Rex is a medium-sized adult belgian malinois dog waiting at SPA Fribourg in Font.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rex, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rex?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA Fribourg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rex on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rex if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA Fribourg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rex already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rex isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA Fribourg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rex and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
