Adopt Rex

Mixed Breed · Male

Rex is a middle-aged gentleman who hasn't seen much of the world and is certainly no dinosaur. As such, he prefers the quiet life and a small world with his trusted humans. He is in a quietish family home in a mature suburban area, and with their sunny garden, he is doing well. Rex is clean in the house, sleeps quietly all night, travels well in a crate in the car, and can spend some time alone. He would love an adult home and would be a great companion for those working from home who have to attend work for a few hours here or there. His absolute favourite place is on your lap. As soon as you make your lap available, he's there like a magnet! He loves to doze in the sun and also play with his toys. Rex is an expert fly chaser/catcher so you can add pest-control to his long list of skills!. He is in foster with some pet bunnies who are very safe in a lovely large pen and he can ignore them. He would probably prefer to be an only-dog, but may do well with a smaller quiet dog too. The world is overwhelming for this little guy, so a quiet and small world will be best for him. He's a home body and once you are in his circle-of-trust, he is your best buddy. He will need plenty of time to settle in and find his feet, and we will provide ongoing guidance. This guy needs a soft landing, and although he's pretty low maintenance, his new people will be prepared for keeping his world small, gentle and within his abilities. If that sounds like a life you lead, maybe Rex is the gentleman for you! A home for Rex will: - be quietish, in a quietish area - have a safe and secure garden - have no dog, or a small quiet dog - will have no small children and will manage children and visitors carefully so as not to scare Rex - have a lap for sharing - support Rex in settling in Rex will make a love low-key companion for a quieter home body so get in touch with A Dog's Life if that sounds perfect for you!

About Rex

What life with Rex looks like

Rex is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at A Dog in Glenmore.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Rex, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rex?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. A Dog handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rex on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rex if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — A Dog will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rex already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rex isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with A Dog early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rex and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
