Adopt Rex

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Rex (10490), has distemper, receives appropriately prescribed medication twice a day, which prevents seizures. The cost of the medication is about 90 zł. Rex is of medium size, I was born at the beginning of 2017. He came to our animal shelter on August 2nd, 2017, with a baggage of unpleasant experiences. He has experienced a lot of bad things from humans, and these events left a strong mark on his behavior. He is distrustful towards people, needs time to gain trust in a new person. Volunteers have shown great patience and commitment, and thanks to this, Rex has changed beyond recognition. Rex has learned to see people from the better side, understood that hands are also for petting and give delicious food! Who doesn't like cuddling and getting rewards? Rex is eager to learn new things. Currently working on recall and release - it's a huge challenge for Rex, because he loves rolling in not very nicely smelling (of course according to us) things. He is also learning basic commands and shows great commitment. He is a very energetic dog, likes to play with toys and passionately engages in sniffing. We think scent work is the best activity for Rex, it will help him calm down, gain confidence and expend his energy. The smell of a cat arouses lively interest in him, but we don't know what his attitude is towards animals. Rex due to his past needs more time to trust, but it's worth trying for such a cute dog. Has up-to-date vaccinations, deworming. He has been microchipped and has already had the neutering procedure.

Do naszego schroniska trafił 2 sierpnia 2017r. z bagażem niemiłych doświadczeń.

About Rex

What life with Rex looks like

Rex is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Zabrze in Zabrze.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rex, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rex?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Zabrze handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rex on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rex if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Zabrze will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rex already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rex isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Zabrze early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rex and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
