Ricki

Mixed Breed · Male

male dog RICKI, born around early 2021, shoulder height ca. 57 cm & 25 Kilo, a dog bed or care crates are sought immediately Our Ricki is a real ray of sunshine! In late February, he was found alone on the street and is now waiting at this breed animal shelter for his chance to find a loving home. His past remains unknown, if Ricki doesn't start talking soon 😄 He is a super friendly and lively dog who delights in every little bit of attention. When you approach his pen, there's no stopping him – he squeals with joy, jumps up, and distributes enthusiastic kisses. He found walks great. Outdoors, he is mainly occupied with his nose, because there are unfortunately far too few exciting scents to discover in the everyday life of an animal shelter. He was also very interested in other dogs (especially a female dog who does not live in the same pen as him). Ricki lives problem-free with other dogs and makes an overall uncomplicated and open impression. He is a bit clumsy on the leash, but that only makes him even more lovable. For this cheerful fellow, we are looking for a loving home, preferably with active people who can show him the world and allow him to catch up on everything he has missed. Do you want to meet Ricki and give him a happy life? Then contact us! 🐶❤️ We do not place animals in very urban living situations or in families with small children. In private. This animal is in the care of friendly animal welfare workers who are also trying to find a home for it. We are happy to assist by providing mediation support and utilizing our reach. Please only submit an adoption request if taking in the animal is possible at the time mentioned in the text and you have already discussed the acceptance of a new family member with your family (and any other involved persons like employers, landlords, or temporary caregivers).

In eigener Sache.

About Ricki

What life with Ricki looks like

Ricki is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ricki, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ricki?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ricki on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ricki if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ricki already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ricki isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ricki and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
