adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Rico has found his people! His story: Double happiness in misfortune for Ferdi and Rico. The two brothers were born in a garden. The owner refused to allow their female dog to be spayed, resulting in unexpected puppies. We were fortunately able to rescue the two puppy siblings from this unfortunate situation and are now searching for wonderful families who want to adopt the two. Currently, they are 3 months old and are expected to grow to a small to medium size. Rico looks like he always has a smile on his lips. This appearance matches his character, as the little puppy is very friendly and loving and always enjoys affection and attention. He is also typically puppy-like, open, and curious. He gets along well with his fellow animals. After the clumsy puppy phase, puberty will eventually follow. During this time, he will test his owners and his limits. He needs someone to stand by him during this hormone chaos and provide the necessary understanding and support so that he can grow into a great dog. Positive reinforcement training and loving consequences will help navigate this time well and emerge as a strong team. For Rico would never deliberately annoy you. He can often be unable to control his behavior during this tumultuous time and hopes that you will always stand behind him during this difficult time. Living children in the household should be older to understand the new companion and not misunderstand. Surely it would be time now to find new friends in dog training classes and finally be able to "learn something" – maybe with you? He is eager to learn the dog ABC and form new friendships. He is vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and treated for fleas and will bring his own EU pet passport. Against an adoption fee of 500 Euros, he can move in. Does Rico make a smile appear on your lips? Many thanks to Susanne M. for taking on the naming sponsorship. As of: 23.02.

Stand: 23.02.2025

About Rico

What life with Rico looks like

Rico is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rico, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rico?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rico on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rico if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rico already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rico isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rico and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
