Riley

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 11 years

Riley has been successfully rehomed as of 18.08.2015. According to the new owners, everything is almost uncannily perfect! We pass on the praise straight to the former owner, who gave his Riley a short stay in the shelter through good training and a safe new home! ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… I am male, neutered, microchipped and born in November 2013. I am about 70 cm tall. I have been waiting for a new home since June 2015. This is what my caretakers say about me: Riley is a surrender dog. With great reluctance, the previous owner separated from his truly very well-behaved Doberman after a breakup and due to professional reasons. Since he did not want to sell him profitably on Ebay, but wanted him to be in the care of the animal protection, we now hope to be able to quickly tell him that his favorite has found a nice home. Not only was it a responsible surrender, but Riley also brought along a good puppy house. He is wonderful with other animals, he knows cats, and he knows basic commands. He initially meets strangers hesitantly and then barks, which still needs to be trained. These small uncertainties are all that could be criticized about this dream Doberman. Riley walks nicely on a leash (especially in the company of friend Zed), can be left alone, is house-trained, knows how to ride in a car, and likes fetch games. He is sports-agile and should accordingly be kept busy. A life as a second dog would bring him much enjoyment, we are sure, as he enjoys the company of dogs. A joint visit to a dog training class would also be possible... Who is interested in this fine Doberman with a tender soul and would like to get to know him? Riley would be happy to make a family happy again soon. Gets along with other dogs.

DE·Show original

About Riley

What life with Riley looks like

Riley is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Riley, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Riley?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Riley on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Riley if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Riley already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Riley isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Riley and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
