RIO (M) - 3.5 YEARS - FA/advanced adopter BLC W134005172 Characteristics Date of birth: 1/09/2022 Gender: Male Registered with LOF/LOSH/ISDS: No Disabilities: No Child interaction: Not tested Dog interaction: Yes for those he knows Cat interaction: Not tested Other interaction: No Character Rio is a kind dog who has however bitten his family on several occasions. But Rio has mitigating circumstances. Rio is a dog that rarely leaves his yard. He lives in a closed circle, sees few other animals of the same species and humans (his family finds him too exuberant when there are people around). Occasionally, he goes out for some canicross with his owner but otherwise, he has no activity (physical or mental). At three and a half years old, Rio has a lot to discover, including training. He is not lost, far from it. He has herding dog behaviors and it would be good to test him. In short, Rio is a border collie going crazy because he is lacking activity! Story Rio is a big dog who is a bit crazy. His family having young children, he tends to push them. He therefore lives mainly in the garden where he gets bored and develops quirks. His family is starting to be afraid of him and asked us to place him elsewhere. Home needed Rio will need a firm hand in a velvet glove. He needs to be trained and really needs an activity urgently. He is a kind dog but misunderstood. We will avoid children, cats and chickens (we know he eats them!). Adoption Neutered/spayed: No but will have to be Vaccinated: Yes Identifier: 250 269 608 741 603 Address: Mazinghem, France Contribution to costs: 250€ Contact person: Cham Ghislaine Dubois via messenger Email: Share on PinterestShare with your friendsYour NameYour EmailRecipient EmailEnter a MessageI read this article and found it very interesting, I think you might like it. About RIO

What life with RIO looks like

RIO is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Border Line Collie in borderlinecollie.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting RIO, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about RIO?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Border Line Collie handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw RIO on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt RIO if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Border Line Collie will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is RIO already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if RIO isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Border Line Collie early rather than rehoming privately; they know RIO and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
