Adopt RIVA

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 6 years

Estimated birth date: January 2019 Brief info: friendly, well-adjusted, people-oriented, curious, active, family+, older children+, male dogs+, female dogs conditionally RIVA was estimated to have been born in January 2019 and was discovered by joggers in a small forest in January 2024. As she was friendly and trusting, they even brought her to the animal shelter. RIVA has very large teats, suggesting she has had multiple litters in the past. She may have previously lived as a breeding dog, served her purpose, and ended up on the streets. However, despite her likely not-so-glamorous past, RIVA is still very friendly, well-adjusted, and people-oriented. She loves the two-leggeds :-). She also loves water ;-). And she is very curious, constantly exploring all unknown corners, as seen in the video. She already runs quite well on a leash and is attentive. She can also be motivated to do a small sprint. However, she must of course learn the full dog 1×1. RIVA seems to get along well with male dogs. During the compatibility test, she was friendly and curious towards the young Lino and even showed playfulness. However, she was a bit tense with the test dog Sunny and let out a growl once. RIVA could be corrected well, but she must be monitored here at all times. For the loving RIVA, we are now looking for people with solid dog experience who have the time and desire to work with her and help her transition to a normal everyday life, and also want to show this sweet snout how wonderful a dog life can be, as she has likely never experienced affection and attention. Due to her suspected mixed breed, RIVA cannot be rehomed to Germany but must go to specific cantons in Switzerland (or to other countries without restrictions, such as Hungary). RIVA will travel neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and with an EU pet passport to her new home. Would you like to give the wonderful RIVA a new life? Then please contact us!. This is a puppy.

About RIVA

What life with RIVA looks like

RIVA is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pfotenretter Ungarn in Pfotenretter.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting RIVA, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about RIVA?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pfotenretter Ungarn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw RIVA on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt RIVA if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pfotenretter Ungarn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is RIVA already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if RIVA isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pfotenretter Ungarn early rather than rehoming privately; they know RIVA and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
